Last week, my family took a vacation to Door County, Wisconsin. We LOVE traveling there and try to do so at least once a year. The last few trips though, have been just Tyler and I; this was the first Door County vacation for both of my younger sons. Landon was in Door County with us when he had just turned two so this felt like his first time, too!

We did some old family favorites and also tried some new things.

Our top Door County MUSTS include:

1. Door County Creamery (doorcountycreamery.com)

I mean seriously. Goat Cheese…need I say more? Oh yes, I do…FRESH goat cheese. Fresh, locally made, creamy delicious goat cheese. On equally fresh baguettes? Is your mouth watering yet??

2. Throwing rocks.

OK This is admittedly a new one on the list, courtesy of being mom of 3 boys.  But we discovered that School House Beach on Washington Island has the BEST rocks for throwing.

Not so much for walking on though…ouch. AND that water….LOOKS like Mexico, feels like the Arctic.

Worth it.

3. Wine.

If I need to explain this one…..no.

4. Sunsets

I’m a self proclaimed sunset addict. And the sunsets in Door County are among the best I’ve ever seen. Our favorite place to watch sunsets is at a small lookout in Fish Creek. We didn’t hit that place up this year, but last time we did, we brought along #1 and #3 with us. Perfection.

5. Off the beaten path, perfect restaurants.

We have a list of favorites of course, but our latest MUST go to is Fred and Fuzzy’s (  fredandfuzzys.com). It’s nothing fancy, just grilled food- mostly sandwiches. BUT four things make this the PERFECT place.

a. Cherry Margaritas (Didn’t know these existed? Us either…best discovery. EVER.)

b. The service and atmosphere. It’s such a relaxed, fun place to be. Not quite fancy, not quite party. Just chill.

c. The view. We’ve been there a couple times. Once and lunch and once for dinner. And both times…KILLER view. I HIGHLY suggest heading there at sunset. Just wow.

d. Deep-fried brownie bites. I’m going to say that again. DEEP fried BROWNIE bites. Like oeey gooey, yummy brownies. That are deep fried. And gooey. And hot. AND ICE CREAM on top!!! I mean I promise, I really, really was only going to have a few bites. Ha. Hahaha.

I’m never sharing those again…..

6. Coming home.

I LOVE traveling with my family, but not going to lie…a trip with three boys is exhausting. Worth it, but exhausting. And the melt downs start around day 3 or 4. I love coming home and plunking on the couch after a vacation.

Door County, you win again.

Are you in love with Door County like us?? If so leave a comment with your favorite thing(s) to do there!
