So we had Jude’s first birthday party this past Saturday. My baby has turned one. I seem to have survived.

 

It was a gorgeous day outside- hot, but breezy. Honestly, if every summer day could be that beautiful, I’d be more than happy! Anyway, we were able to have the party outside because of the perfect weather (let’s be honest here- that is less clean up both before and after). The boys were so excited for the party, in fact, the very first thing Ascher said to me when he woke up was, “We go eat birthday cake now?” Landon, on the other hand, was just confused why Jude wasn’t able to talk now that it was Jude’s first birthday and he was one. I love their minds.

Tyler grilled chicken (I will have to share the recipe soon!- BEST grilled chicken EVER there were only 3 pieces left…in fact…now I’m bummed that all the left overs are gone) and I baked the cake the night before- Landon helped me frost it and was very excited. Jude opened his gifts and got lots of clothes and books. Mama was happy about that- these boys love books and can’t ever have enough! And after gifts, Jude was surprisingly still happy and awake so we did his cake smash.

And he was SO FUNNY! I honestly laughed way more than I expected to even. After singing Happy Birthday and blowing out candles (during which, Jude tried to grab the flame..), we set the cake in front of him. He just looked at it for a while (this is the kid who ate an earring back off the floor yesterday) and then finally put his face right next to (but not in) the cake. Of course, we all laughed, and he LOVED that! Cue Jude being a comedian- he literally did this back and forth for at least 5 minutes and every time sat up to see our reaction.I went ahead and cut the cake open to see if he’d act any different. He actually looked inside at the cake and then pushed it back together! He did eventually eat a little frosting…then he got bored and crawled away….
