Anybody who knows me knows that I absolutely love my dogs… even though they can be huge turds sometimes.

I decided to grab my camera and have a little fun to see if I could get a few portraits of them. Let me tell you, it was way harder than photographing a cranky toddler during a family photo session.

Dog Portraits Are No Joke

For real though, this was no joke.

I had to do a lot of treat bribery. I could get them to sit still for a minute, but honestly, they really just wanted the treats and I don’t blame them.

As a photographer, I am pretty used to working with movement, distractions, and unpredictable moments during family photography sessions. Apparently, dogs looked at that experience and said, “Cute. Watch this.”

The Easiest Photos? The Lazy Ones.

Despite the chaos, I ended up with a few really cute pictures of them.

As you can see in one of the photos, my younger dog was being completely lazy for a while and honestly, that was probably the easiest time to grab a portrait. When they were outside and distracted by literally everything happening in the world, getting a good photo was a whole different story.

Sometimes the best portraits happen when the subject finally decides to stop fighting you for thirty seconds.

Why I Still Love Photographing Them

As annoying as they can be sometimes, I love them quite a bit.

They are always down for a good snuggle or pet, and even though this little dog photography adventure required more patience than I expected, I am glad I pulled out my camera and captured them just as they are.

Because honestly? Their goofy personalities are part of what makes them ours.
