So, you’ve booked your senior session and the day is coming up. You open your closet and realize you have NO IDEA what you want to wear!

Um, hi lady, BEEN THERE! So since senior photo season is officially upon us, I thought I’d throw together some suggestions for what you can wear to your senior session.  Please do keep in mind that these are only all suggestions, make  sure above all, you are choosing a wardrobe that really showcase who YOU are and what you love.

That being said…here are some tips.

1. It’s not all black and white.

Seriously, jazz it up a bit! Being the queen of neutral colors, I think I’m allowed to say that black and white can be so BORING in photos. Cream is beautiful, grey is gorgeous… but sometimes, black and white can just be, well, a little blah. Sometimes. Now, if your favorite shirt or dress is black, by all means GRAB it, this is just my opinion and isn’t true in all cases!

2. Accessorize!

The accessories that you love are a big part of who you are. Don’t skip out on them for your portraits. If you’re not sure, bring it! You don’t have to wear every single item you bring with you! Shoes, earrings, necklaces, scarves, purses (yes, purses! Why not?!)…and did I mention shoes??

3. Don’t be afraid of patterns.

Back when I was getting senior photos done (hmmm…let’s not go there…), I remember being given the advice to avoid all patterns, it doesn’t photograph well, I was told. Umm, hello? Are you sure? I just can’t make  myself agree with that one! Go check out some of the outfits that Julia wore in her senior session last summer. Don’t  tell me you can’t wear a pattern. 😉

4. Color. Pop it.

I’ll be the first to admit that I shy away from buying color. In fact, I just went shopping today and realized that I came home with jean shorts, black flip flops, a grey tank and a white shirt (HEY there was a stripe of yellow on it……). BUT a pop of color in your senior photos is GORG! Now I’m not saying to dress like a rainbow, just throw in a little color. Now..if dressing like a rainbow is your thing, go for it! 😉

5. Don’t bring too much.

Yes, I know. I already said that if you aren’t sure about something to grab it, however you don’t want to spend the entire session time deciding on what to wear. I don’t have a limit on your outfits, but my suggestions is about 3 or 4 of your favorites.

6. Mix it up

Don’t bring 3 dresses or 4 shirts that are almost the same unless that is all that you feel great in. I suggest a couple casual outfits and one or two dresses or dressier outfits.

7. Hair and Makeup

If you have the time and money, get them done professionally before your session. This isn’t to make you more fabulous than you already are, this is to give you one less thing to worry about! And I know when I have my hair and makeup done I FEEL AWESOME! Don’t feel like you need to do this one, but it might help you relax and improve your confidence. 🙂

8. Be YOU

This is the only one that is a requirement. Don’t follow any of the suggestions above if they aren’t YOU. Choose things you love and feel great in.  Something that makes you smile and relax. Let’s do this. 🙂
